"U Wont Luv Me" / Webby

Odd Future’s rap collective model has been more influential than the hyperbolic blogosphere of the late ‘00s could have ever predicted. It was an identity rewrite of hip-hop, that although musically unrelated, the rise of emo rap could not exist without. East Melbournites AFGx313 are a rap collective channelling the undead spirit of Lil Peep and his Goth Boi Clique contemporaries. Webby, one of the collective’s most prominent acts, debuts his new track ‘U Wont Luv Me’ on Verve today (produced by 4evr & taxpurposes and mixed by @circlepitt). The track is glossier than his debut’s murky grooves, rippling of a pretty finger-picked guitar refrain while ruminating on simple desire. The drug and alcohol motifs of the genre remain, though the simple vulnerability of Webby’s words feel more earnest than his blockbuster influences. Listen below and watch out for Webby in Laundry Bar, The Gaso and Grace Darling Hotel as he prepares for another year of releases. It’s a good time to be into Melbourne hip-hop.
