'2 ON Ft. Martyn Bootyspoon' / Interview with 2-ON

Ahead of 2-ON ft. Martyn Bootysoon (CAN) at Miscellania this Sunday, we speak with the 2 ON creators Matisse and Tinika.

TICKETS - 2 ON FT. MARTYN BOOTYSPOON

Why did you start 2 ON?

We started 2 ON as a way to celebrate and bring our community together. We both met through community events and with Tinikas DJ career and Matisses producing (and partying) experience it was a perfect project for us to use our skills to create something we both felt proud to be a part of. We wanted to create an all queer, black led run community night that focuses on platforming up and coming artists. As a rule, we only book artist of colour, with the majority of them being queer also, because we want our audience to see themselves reflected in the line-up!

How do you want people to feel at your parties?

We want them to feel cunt! We want them to feel safe and celebrated and to know that there is a space that is specifically for them to be exactly who they are.

What can we expect from this next event?

We going international baby! This 4th iteration of 2 ON is the perfect meld of Naarm qtibipoc favourites and local new talent coming together to support an internationally acclaimed Black artist. We feel very blessed to have this opportunity to throw a night like this so early on in our journey and we know the crowd will bring the usual sexy 2 ON energy, IYKYK!

Tell us a little about the epic headliner that is Martyn Bootyspoon?

Martyn Bootyspoon is one of the baddest to ever do it and we are so excited to bring him out from Montreal, Canada! His online presence and musical offering lets us know he is authentically himself, which is why he is the perfect international headliner for 2 ON. He exudes personality and has a refreshing approach to music which blends elements of house, techno, and experimental sounds . Throughout his career of high energy sets, and impressive track releases Martyn’s charismatic stage presence and genuine connection with his audience have made him a favorite all over the world. It’s super special that Martyn will be closing out the night with a massive 2 hour journey,

Anything else you’d like to add?

Thank you for reading this article. Before you leave the page, we’d like you to take a moment to read this statement.  We are asking our readers to take action and stand with the BIPOC community who fight and endure the oppression and injustice of racial inequality.

Here in ‘Australia’,  Indigenous people are the most incarcerated population on Earth. Countless lives have been murdered by white police, white government policies and this country’s white history, institutionalised colonialism and ongoing racial oppression. Racial injustice continues today under the phoney, self-congratulatory politics of ‘Reconciliation’ and the notion that colonialism is something that must be denied and forgotten, an uncomfortable artefact of the past.

Feeling guilty is not enough. We must take action, pay the rent, educate ourselves and acknowledge that empathy and sorrow for past actions is insufficient if this does nothing to prevent our current reality from extending into the future.

Please consider making donations to the following organisations (the list is so small and the work to be done is so large, do your research to find more grassroots, Indigenous-lead community organisations):
