Taking a leaf from the buzzing electronic scene encompassing Smith St, Kitchen returns this Saturday night with Kitchen Presents: Skinny Wizard ft. Pretty Girl, Rara Zulu and G’Ardnr. Kicking off at 8:30pm with G’Ardnr (DJ), the Grace Darling basement will glimmer with both the glorious grooves of these gracious musicians and projection art from Mietta Mintzis. If my excessive use of alliteration hasn’t convinced you of that fact, their music sure will.
Producer and keys player Skinny Wizard creates heavy analogue house beats destined to be enjoyed by the ears, eyes and body. His assortment of drum machine patterns, synths and keyboard melodies intertwine in atmospheric unison where movement seems immediate, necessary. Ending the night, Skinny Wizard is sure to attract wanderers and music-lovers alike before his 6-month hiatus across the globe.
Pretty Girl loves to dance. So, she creates music that will make sure that you can’t help yourself from dancing too. Beginning with soft house tracks before evolving into heavier techno-infused rhythms, her weakness for big kick drums and warm synthesisers produces high-energy dance music overlaid with her sweet, sweet vocals.
South African born Melbourne-based vocalist Rara Zulu is honest and vulnerable. Influenced by soul, RnB and Hip-Hop, her sound is brought to life by a band of incredible musicians and some of her closest friends. Working with bands including Elle Shimada Music, 30/70, Messy Mammals and Rat Child, Rara’s solo performance traverses raw boundaries with passion and creativity gained in these collaborations.
