'Dependence' / Gus Davidson
Gus Davidson, 19 years old, from Bayside Melbourne.
'I have loved photography since I was 12 and just recently moved to film as a new medium. This is my first short film, 90 seconds in length, featuring my first attempt at script writing to convey the story. All of my other film projects have been visual, involving concepts conveyed through movement and surroundings. They had no scripts nor any clear-cut storyline so this was a rather big change in direction for me.
The focus of this film is on messages and symbols of a stark social future, by looking at our humanity and painting a possible pathway we are travelling along. Although slightly hyperbolised in this film, I was wanting to depict the ease of not having to think for yourself by highlighting the stability of instructions we rely upon without noticing.
What would our reality become without critical thought?
I collaborated with composer Harry Lochhead to create an ambient track that would work harmoniously with the visual imagery to evoke strong emotions and trigger thoughts within the mind of the viewer.
Hope you enjoy.'
